Green Grass...Yay!!

Our lawn has been up for about 6 days. It is doing pretty good thanks to all of the warm weather we are finally having. This is the front yard...

and the back yard... Soon we will be mowing. It is still very thin but at least it looks more like a lawn now.

Mike put in a sidewalk and parking area to access the front of the house...it turned out real well!! He put in railroad ties to seperate the grass and shale, it will make a nice edge. He just planted the grass this morning on this side of the sidewalk where the sprinkler is.

I got a few of my flower pots planted on the front porch as well. I have a couple of rocky berms to plant...originally I was going to use the rocky dirt for a waterfall pond feature, but that didn't happen so we made two planting beds. I am trying to get things to grow in the poor rocky soil. I think I will depend on Miracle Grow.

Lucy is ready to go for a walk with me. Pepi is down staying with Jimmy since Lucy is in season. I think we might be having pups in a couple of months...I'll keep you posted.

The backyard with my garden in the foreground...things are just starting to come up. I have my tomato and pepper plants in too. That is my little chicken house in the background. Here is a closer picture of it. It is home to 5 little red hens. Notice the copper weathervane on the roof...it was a gift from Kelly and Ryan last Christmas..We love it!! I'll have to get a better picture to post of it.

Starting tomorrow we are going to start on the painting of the house. First Mike is going to spray primer the soffits and deck railing, then spray paint them white. The color for our house is called Sedona Sands, the funny thing is, when I did a test spot on the house it was the same color that our siding is primed. We almost decided not to use it because it will be hard to tell where we have painted. We are going to give it a try though.
Mom and I got plants and planted a couple of her flower tubs today. Petunias, geraniums, lobelia and giant pansies. So sweet. I will get some pictures of them too.

Short ~ Sweet

That is how I would describe last week. It was so nice to have Kelly home!! We all miss having her near. She came to visit over Mother's Day and the week following. She and Ryan are still living out in Kingston, Nova Scotia....a beautiful place but so far away. We ( Mom, Kelly and I ) made a trip to Cashmere to see the progress that Jessie is making on his home. Mike and Jimmy had been down helping him build a garage, pour cement, and start on his deck. It looks better every time I see it!

Jessie, Mom and Kelly

We had lunch at Studebaker's, a cute little 50's diner inside Apple Annie's Antique Mall, then poked around looking through the shops. It was a fun day. I think we wore Mom out pretty good, but she never complained at all.

It was great having Kelly here, we did a bunch of landscaping, this is in the back yard. We got trees planted and finally the grass. So in another few weeks we will have a lawn. Yay!! Needless to say all of that dirt outside makes for a dusty house!

The Saturday before Kelly went home, we had a nice family Bar-B-Q with Jessie, Jimmy, Kelly,Mom, Dad, Mike and me. It was wonderful to have everyone together. I wish Ryan could have been with us too.

Then in a blink of an eye it was time to take her to the airport in Kelowna.

It was a Great Week!!

Cinco de Mayo
Things have been pretty busy around here. Mike has been busy pouring cement for the breeze way and the parking pad outside of the garage. It is nice to have a little less dirt to track into the house. The next project will be getting the lawn in. The irrigation is on now so he has the added chore of changing water. Right now he has 2 wheel lines and about 4 or 5 hand lines. He has Jimmy helping him disc up about 5 acres to replant in alfalfa.

Last week I made chicken enchiladas for the family dinner. Yummy!! I used verde enchilada sauce as my daughter suggested. They turned out great. I didn't get the picture after they came out of the oven, hungry people.

I started on a couple of flower beds for my lawn. I wanted to have it be about twice as high with a waterfall and pool at the bottom...but that idea got nixed(for now). This will be nice when it is done.

The dahlia and squash seeds I planted on my kitchen window sill are doing great, but need to be re potted, it is still to cold to put them outside. My onions are awaiting a spot in the garden too, I just don't have a garden area yet. Maybe I am getting a bit ahead of myself. I am just so ready to have it be warm and play in the dirt.

Pepi and Lucy are enjoying the warmer weather too. Here they are with a ham bone. They take turns stealing it from each other.
Today we are celebrating Cinco de Mayo at work. We made a bunch of tissue paper flowers for decorations , we have a huge pinata hanging and are giving away door prizes and candy. What fun!!
