Weekend Happenings

Friday morning we took off for Cashmere, we are keeping an eye on things while JD is in Alaska working. Mike mowed the field with Jessie's tractor, did a bunch of weed eating and fertilized his lawn. The lawn service will start this week, so things should look even better next time we go down. We went out to dinner, shopped and spent the night (kind of a mini vacation). We found a few yard sales Saturday morning which was fun too.

My niece Sarah came to visit Mom and Dad (her grandparents)with a special guest, her fiance Miles. They all came up to our house on Sunday afternoon for a barbecue. It was nice to see Sarah since we don't see her very often, and Miles seemed like a real nice guy. I guess we didn't scare him too bad.

I have been trying to ride Rita every evening after dinner..I really enjoy it! Our first ride she was all excited and wouldn't stay in a walk and wanted to go home, now she is calm and willing. A real pleasure to ride. We are taking it easy, getting us both in shape. I'm glad the days are so long. Next I will start working with Dixie. She is 2 and I need to teach her to lead and tie.
I don't think it will be to hard, she is a smart little filly.

Happy Fathers Day!

Although you really can't tell in the pix, it was pouring outside for our Bar-B-Q. Undaunted, we dined inside instead of out on the back porch as I was hoping. It has been raining all afternoon, a real stay in and be lazy day. Even Pepi and Lucy are in a napping mood. We just got them this new doggie bed and they approve.

The View from my Back Porch

Mike got up early (12am) and started baling hay today. It took him a little over 3 hours to get it done, but it sure looks good. He came in and slept some, got up and changed sprinklers, then started picking up the hay. He uses a harrow-bed to pick it up, that is a real back saver! It is alfalfa/grass mix hay...perfect for horses and cows.

This is the field that he planted this spring...it is an oat/alfalfa mix. By the time he cuts it, the oats will be chest high.

Rocket, Dixie and Rita all agree that DH grows the best hay around!! Little Dixie is in the middle...she just turned 2!! She is almost as tall as her momma (on the right). They are all pretty sweet girls!!

A Sweet Surprise in the Mail!!

I was so surprised to find this waiting for me at the PO the other night after work. My sweet daughter sent it to me for no particular reason, she knows this is one of my favorite sayings. I love it!! I have been wearing it since I got it. Thanks Kelly!! You are so thoughtful!!

Below are a couple of pix of the front of our house, the lawn is coming in pretty good, it is so nice not to be living in a dirt bowl anymore! Mike has mowed about 3 times now.

And the back of the house...
Yesterday was our 35th Wedding Anniversary, this is our wedding candle below. We are supposed to light it every year on our anniversary...but as you can by how much it has been burnt we forget to light it sometimes (alot!) It was all white, but about 10 years ago I decided to give it a face lift and painted it with roses and flowers. Much better!!

This last picture may be a little too graphic for some, so don't look if that is the case. I just couldn't help but snap this shot of Pepi. Mike had cut the hay behind the house and Pepi was out hunting mice. He was so proud of himself for getting one, he was carrying it all around. He ran from door to door trying to get us to let him in the house with it. But that wasn't going to happen, not even with that pathetic face of his. He was outside the screen wanting in.
