Cape Kawanda

A couple of weeks ago we went for a short trip to the Oregon Coast in the Bounder. It has been at Jessie's place in Cashmere for about a year. We packed up some clothes and the two dogs and off we went in the Toyota. We spent the weekend at Jessie's. He is starting to get his house furnished and had just bought a beautiful bedroom set. He also got a washer and dryer while we were there so Mike could help him get it in the house and hooked up. Monday morning we took off for Oregon, Jessie had already took off for work( he is working in the Everett area). We had a full day of driving and finally stayed at Tillimook, Oregon. We went to the Tillimook Cheese Factory, then drove on down to Cape Kawanda.

The weather was wonderful, warm and not windy. There were surfers out surfing so we watched them and walked on the beaches amd took in the sunset.

The next morning we took the Toyota and drove down to Lincoln City and walked on the beach,

and then drove on down to Newport.

Thursday afternoon we left for McMinnville to see the Spruce Goose. It was huge!

We spent the night in McMinnville then drove up to Hillsboro in the morning. I wanted to go to the Roloff Farms since I like to watch Big World, Little People. We went to the visitor center to get directions, then it was easy to find. We went on a wagon ride tour of their farm...it was Fun!! Regretfully I left my camera in the Bounder, which was parked at a grocery store in town. Oh Well. Then we drove back to Cashmere and home.

Pepi and Lucy both had a good time too!! They were great little travelers!

Goodbye Old Friend

May 1994 - October 4, 2008

Last night Ranger died. We had gone to Wenatchee for the day and on our arrival home Ranger was not there to greet us. I found him in the garage, he must have had a stroke or heart attack, I really don't know. He was about 14 1/2 years old and in decent shape, granted he was moving slower but nothing major.

Ranger was left on our back porch in the summer of 1994. He soon became an important part of our family. It is going to be strange not having him around. I'm going to miss you friend.

Fall is Here

I guess it is official...fall is here. We had our first frost of the season the night before last. It got part of the garden but I think I'll still get a few more tomatoes if the days can stay warm enough.

Mike and I went to Wenatchee with Mom and Dad since Dad had a Dr. appt. The report was good from a medical standpoint. I know it isn't what Roy wanted to hear though. He would like a cure and to feel like his old self. That's what we want for him too...

We picked out the granite for our island in the new house. It should be ready to pick-up in a week or so. Then we stopped by Jessie's house to water his trees and turn off his power. He is in Texas with the company he works for helping to get the electrical power restored.

Mike and Jimmy are starting on the walls of garage down at Mom and Dads house. It will be so nice for them to have covered parking this winter.

This and That

My hens have finally started laying eggs! I am getting between 2 or 3 a day...sometimes 4. They taste so good. We have 2 calves, Big Boy and Cherry. Last Saturday night my hens were clucking around the chicken pen but not going in...I went over to see why and there was Big Boy in their pen! He had eaten their chicken feed, ate the hay out of their nests and stepped on and broke their waterer. The hens wanted to go to bed but they wanted him out first. I got him out..but he had made a mess out of the chicken yard, bulldozing through the fence and all. Last night a doe and fawn jumped into the calf pasture and the calves chased them out. It was pretty funny.

Mike and Jimmy are working on Mom and Dads garage. They ended up having to rip the slab out and starting from scratch. A lot more work that originally thought. It will be so nice for them though when it is done

Mike is fencing off about 6 acres in front of the house to put the horses in. They will have grass to eat there for a couple of months or more. Our barn is stuffed full of hay, and we have a few tons stacked outside too. His hay turned out beautiful! I am sure he is glad to be done with the hay season and all that water changing.

We have been looking around for a newer car, something in this century. We had been thinking about an HHR or Ford Focus, but after test driving a Focus last weekend I think we've changed our minds. Now we are leaning towards a VW Jetta. Hopefully we will find something we both like with good gas mileage that won't break the bank.

I'll get the camera out and post some pix of the hens and calves as well as progress on the garage.

End of Summer

It has been a busy summer...but always to short. I got to go visit Kelly and Ryan the last week of July. The weather was great! I had a fun filled week shopping, touring the local sites, going to a drive-in movie, picnicking at the lake, walking along the ocean...just to name a few of the things we did. Kelly is a wonderful cook and she always had delicious meals for us. I only wish it wasn't so far to Nova Scotia. I sure miss them.

This is Lucy...I came home from work one Friday night and here she was. Mike made a deal for her trading hay while I was in Nova Scotia. She is a cutie! Pepi wasn't too thrilled with her when we got her..but he thinks she is okay now...but he is still the Boss!

Mike and Jimmy have been working on the house again. It is painted and the wood floors were put in and sanded this week.

Jimmy put the cabinets together and they got them hung. They are really pretty... solid maple fronts. They were delivered to our house on a freight truck on a pallet all boxed up. We bought them on the Internet.

1st Cutting

Mike has been working really hard getting our 1st cutting of hay in. He hasn't got much sleep this week since he starts baling at 12 or 1 in the morning then bales until the dew is gone at about 7 or 8 in the morning. The rest of the day is spent picking up the hay from the field and changing sprinklers. Jimmy has been helping pick it up with the harrow bed and stacking. Here is a picture of our haystack. I'm not sure exactly how much hay there is...but I'd guess around 60 - 70 tons.

Home for a Visit

Happy News...Kelly came home for about a week (never long enough). We all enjoy having her home, she is a breath of fresh air! We wish Ryan could have come too... and the granddogs. Kelly and I went to Cashmere to check out Jessie's house and spent the night with him.










Jessie was just finishing painting his house, it turned out great!



We went to Apple Annie's Antique Mall in Cashmere and another antique shop there. Jessie declined our invitation to come. We did go to a Chinese Buffet for dinner where Jessie grossed me out eating whole baby squid. The next day we spent the morning in Leavenworth. We had a great time shopping around and had crepe's for lunch at a cafe. Check out this cool petunia tree at a market just outside of Leavenworth. I want Mike to make me one!










Kelly and Jimmy went down and played cards with Grandma and Grandpa one night. We went to Rancho Chico, went on a hike and a couple of walks, and mostly just enjoyed having her with us. I so can't wait 'till they live closer...Nova Scotia is too far!! All to soon it was time for her to leave.







Jessie came home for a couple of days...then Jimmy drove him over to the airport in Seattle. He was going to Alaska to take a state lineman's test to work up there. I am happy to say he passed it and is still up there waiting to see if any jobs open up in the next week. I hope he takes the time to look around at the sites while he is there.


Today Mike started the big job of cutting the hay. He got our 20+ acres down, now he has about 30 more that he is farming to cut. Jimmy will be around to help.
